Gallery
GONZÁLEZ & GONZÁLEZ

In March 2010, González y González commenced its operations as an art gallery. Founded by the art historian and cultural manager, Daniella González Maldini, the French-Peruvian artist, Jota Castro, and the Chilean artist, Patrick Hamilton, the gallery operated for 5 years within a small apartment nestled in one of the most emblematic buildings of the Bellas Artes neighborhood in downtown Santiago, generating a project space for a collective of Latin American visual artists in tune with the international contemporary art scene; the dual objective of which is also to foster and enhance the local art scene and to cultivate and encourage in Chile practices of collecting which encompass various perspectives and interests.

Hence, over the course of four years, G&G had been engaged with a group of artists who shared a common vision of the social, political and economic contexts that were beginning to emerge throughout the Latin American continent. The gallery's extensive portfolio of over 30 exhibitions and projects, coupled with its active and pioneering involvement in art fairs, showcased not only the prevailing contingencies of the era but also served as a revelation of the intricate issues persisting in the region, for example, the implicit social violence spread across the continent, the enormous inequality existing in it, the ravages and exhaustion of the neoliberal model or the increase of global warming; phenomena that were evolving in the most distinct ways and exploding into social, economic and environmental crises at a global level, thus reaffirming the anticipatory capacity of Art and, above all, the need for it to be a reflection of its time, regardless of borders.

In mid-2014, González y González embraced a decade-long hiatus, after which resurfaced as a Cultural Management Agency dedicated to promoting Latin American Contemporary, political and conceptual Art.
